1.
I wake up and it's windy after dreaming of a flood There are no divine commandments I am not the wrath of God But when I know that blood will flow God is my middle-man I lift the stone, God breaks the bone And then washes clean my hands We were God's ghost writers We were meeting once a week But in truth we never heard a word Because God doesn't speak The backyards flood, the waters wash the fence into the creek Whisper softly as you touch the child say "God says not to speak"
2.
There's a time and a place And this is neither We might fight but can we live without it? The look on my face I am the deceiver I could cut you off quick and not take a minute to grieve Run for your life from me I just can't be trusted Yes there's something wrong And that's how we'll leave it I've had a thousand sleeping lessons but I never want to go to sleep Wrapped up so long You just can't believe it While every six months I just want to quit everything Run for your life from me I just can't be trusted
3.
In the end it's all just flesh An awkward silence after sex The same bulimic conversations Between the nights of emptiness In the distance snarls of hate And upstairs just broken plates She came at dawn with the big solutions Her lips so blue on a bled white face She said "I think I'm dead but I know you're not So you're talking to me, that's fair enough" I got so drunk that my lips are numb Eyes full of tears, no control of my tongue We watch the breeders breed And we hear their children scream The diplomats in limousines Snake down a road like a filthy stream Expectations solid weights I'd rather drink these dreams away I think you're just too scared to leave here But then I'm just too weak to stay She said "I think I'm dead but I know you're not So you're talking to me, that's fair enough" I got so drunk that my lips are numb Eyes full of tears, no control of my tongue
4.
Lost in Love 03:18
Jealousy a distraction from giving into love Focus on my weakness and that's what I become Some things just worth forgetting Some things solved some things aren't We can know each other's secrets but remain mysterious Days turn to weeks turn to months then to years lost in love Find it hard to know what is right, what is wrong, lost in love We can't learn all the answers Or ask the questions all at once Sometimes we'll feel like strangers All the distance between us Let every bitter skirmish pass before sundown Work through the hardest moments They're the ones that really count Days turn to weeks turn to months then to years lost in love Find it hard to know what is right, what is wrong, lost in love
5.
Reading all the lines on my lonely sister Looking for a sign to stay No static beaming out from the dead transistor Searching for radio waves I run when you call When I reach out you fall Try to be more than a blip on your radar But every day my signal fades No static beaming from the dead transistor Searching for radio waves I stumble on some clippings that you'd collected Filed and never seen again All that time together never dropped our defences Little battles always get in the way I run when you call When I reach out you fall Try to be more than a blip on your radar But every day my signal fades No static beaming from the dead transistor Searching for radio waves
6.
The Storm 03:35
They fled in the storm just before our bombs would reach them Nameless peasants dying in the night You won't see them in our new, we must not see our victims For this to be a just war we must be blind If you kill a child on the street we call that an act of murder But in a war we call it friendly fire To us it is an abstract thing, a theoretical decision Only with this disconnection can it seem right We fled in the storm just before their bombs could reach us Nameless peasants dying in the night To them it is an abstract thing, a theoretical decision Only with this disconnection can it seem right

9.
Behind Glass 02:34
Dinner in the midnight court Moonlight on the dark brick walls The food is served but you're not there No one left to defend Now the snakes come They fight for a place in the roof They used to be scared of you But you don't exist any more You don't exist any more so we just run No you don't exist any more No you don't exist any more Talk to you behind the glass Window filling up with frost I can hardly see you there Reach out to touch each other but the window froze Now we're lying side by side Say I'm glad things turned out alright Good to feel you so close Little moment just in peace then I wake up And you don't exist any more No you you don't exist any more
10.
The Rips 04:19
Distress, it hits you like a flood After weeks of only feeling numb Your mind plays over and over and over and over The things that she's become There's the things she can't forget She plays them over in her head while looking stunned So lay low, whisper don't shout She won't see you, let yourself out But oh no, you fell, you fell You thought that her body was a wishing well It rips, it's ripping into you As she grips, she grips a hold of you She's crying "save me, save me, save me, save me Save me and save me soon" Save me from the threat Save me from any thread of something new So lay low, whisper don't shout She won't see you, let yourself out But oh no, you fell, you fell You thought that her body was a wishing well In bed, you feel so far apart Why are you crying, you don't know where to start Cause you're reliving, living, living, living Her memories through your heart Now you're cutting off your friends Cutting off the threads of what you knew So now there's nothing in your head But nothing in your head is nothing new So lay low, whisper don't shout She won't see you, let yourself out But oh no, you fell, you fell You thought that her body was a wishing well
11.
Standing in the winter sun Waiting for the train Tallies clink in plastic bags Reminds me of the life I have Just haunting those dawn hallways Workers whisper fork tongued tales Who will be the first to run? Do you think you'll be the one that escapes? Will you escape? Can you escape? Another night of race to sleep The shooting stars no one sees Search the mirror for a sign Reflection with a black outline A city full of day time thieves They talk of hollow victories In the suburbs no alarm bells ring The famine happens quietly, no one escapes You won't escape We won't escape
12.
walk you home through the park I walk you home through the park You know I'd stab someone for you Right through the bones into the heart A silhouette in the window Weeping and whispers in the grass The swollen brook is bubbling over And twisted shapes float past It's cold and wet beneath the bridges And your lamp light is fading fast You just ride harder and harder Plunging your way into the dark
13.
Come on and light a candle Between the dunes, down on the beach It’ll be so bright that’s how they’ll say the curtains got bleached It lit up the arcades Pushed kids on the swings in the parks Burnt right through the comic shop Blew all the balls across the tennis courts You read a book on hypnotising I watch the boats listing out on the horizon Your parents were quiet They barely even noticed us And despite all that happened I just left the next day on the bus We were down by the river Had a few lines Just dipping them in Saw it in the water While picking oysters from under the bridge We took it to your caravan Put it in the sink and washed off the sand You hurt my brother He cried then I took him and we ran Expectations are sometimes as strange as dreams And now matter how hard I try they always seem to be fraying at the seams All of the angels They swim with sharks While dogs attack On the shore they attack the failed lifeguards Our bodies they’re still out there Just bobbing in the sea And all I’ve done is tread water in the decades now between
